St Mary’s Chanterlands care home gathered to celebrate a touching moment today as the family of Alan Pye, a beloved resident who passed away on October 31, 2023, at the age of 91, paid a surprise visit. Alan’s granddaughter led this heartfelt remembrance, marking what has become a cherished Halloween tradition at St Mary’s.

Known for his warmth, charm, and impeccable style, Alan was more than just a resident—he was family to everyone at St Mary’s. He brightened any room with his warm smile and delighted in sharing stories from his younger years on Chanterlands Avenue. His favourite times were always those filled with music, which brought him immense joy and became central to his legacy at the care home.

A Halloween Tribute Rooted in Family Tradition

In honour of Alan, his family brought a unique gift—a carefully nurtured pumpkin grown from seed, a tradition the family has maintained to keep his memory alive. This special pumpkin, painted with a cheerful face, now takes pride of place in the home’s café bar, bringing a festive yet sentimental touch to St Mary’s. Alan’s love for Halloween has lived on through this pumpkin tradition, bringing smiles to all who see it.

Remembering a Life Well-Lived

Everyone at St Mary’s Chanterlands extends their heartfelt thanks to Alan’s family for this thoughtful gesture. As we celebrate the life of Alan Pye, his legacy reminds us of the warmth and joy he shared. We are grateful for the opportunity to remember Alan in such a meaningful way, and our thoughts are with his family during this time.
