St Mary’s Riverside Care Home residents and staff bid bon voyage to their cute and cuddly resident bear, River, as he embarks on his first of many adventures.
The lovely residents at St Mary’s Riverside in Hessle recently took to their hearts the care home’s resident Teddy Bear. After careful consideration and a bit of playful banter, they lovingly named him ‘River’ in honour of their home, Riverside.
The care team St Mary’s Riverside are super-excited to introduce an intergenerational connection between Riverside residents and the young children at Busy Little Hands Pre-school in Anlaby, Hull.
Laura Barnsley, Home Manager at St Mary’s Riverside said, “We met with Laura Wilkinson the Director of Busy Little Hands Pre-school, and we were all super excited to start an intergenerational relationship between the residents and the young children.”
River has already embarked on his maiden voyage to meet the schoolchildren, and it didn’t take long for them to fall head over heels for him. He has since become a cherished companion, venturing to various places with the children and their families.
Laura continued, “The benefits of intergenerational activities, for our residents, are profound, fostering a sense of purpose and the opportunity to share experiences and wisdom. Interactions with young children have also shown improvements in mental and physical health, boosting their overall well-being.”
“For the children, this initiative encourages communication and social skills, enhances language development through reading and shared activities, and instils empathy, care, and kindness, along with respect for older generations.
“River has already begun his next adventure with a new set of little friends, we are so excited to see where River visits next, and tell the stories to our wonderful residents!”
Busy Little Hands children will soon pen down captivating tales of River’s escapades within the community and beyond. He’s already travelled by train to see Blippi at Hull New Theatre with Hudson and his mummy. Later, he enjoyed a delightful tea party at The Secret Village with Hudson and Olivia, featuring plenty of singing and dancing. Hudson even had the chance to dress up as a firefighter. The residents at St Mary’s Riverside will definitely enjoy these heart-warming stories and are excited to follow River’s future adventures.
