At St. Mary’s Chanterlands Care Home, we are thrilled to provide high-quality residential, dementia, and nursing care in the Hull area. Our experienced care team is dedicated to making every day special for our residents, and we are proud to say that our care home is already half full and ready to welcome more residents to join our vibrant community.
A significant part of our commitment to resident wellbeing comes through our residents’ fund, which is carefully managed year-round by our dedicated team members, Gavin and Michelle. The fund allows us to provide a variety of enriching experiences, activities, and entertainers for our residents, helping to create a warm, enjoyable environment for everyone.
This past weekend, one of the most exciting fundraising efforts yet took place, with Iain, Michelle’s husband, completing the Humber Half Marathon in support of the residents’ fund at St. Mary’s Chanterlands.
Earlier in the year, Iain decided to take on the challenge after witnessing the passion Michelle and Gavin put into enhancing life for our residents. Inspired by Michelle’s dedication and hearing that she even planned to skydive to raise funds, Iain thought of how he could contribute. As a keen runner, he decided to challenge himself with the Humber Half Marathon, despite never having run the full 13.1 miles before.
Training for the half marathon, Iain enlisted the help of his friend Dave for extra moral support. Together, they put in long hours, gradually building up their endurance, though they had never quite reached the full distance before the big day.
On Sunday 29th, Iain and Dave set out to complete the race, hoping to finish in under 2 hours. With Michelle stationed at the finish line to cheer them on, the pair put in an outstanding performance and crossed the finish line with an impressive time of 1 hour 50 minutes.
To celebrate their achievement, Michelle treated both runners to a well-deserved ice cream, and Iain successfully raised £230 for the residents’ fund, with additional donations still coming in.
We are incredibly grateful to Iain, Dave, and everyone who supported this wonderful fundraising effort. The funds raised will help us continue to provide enriching activities and entertainment for our residents, enhancing their daily lives at St. Mary’s Chanterlands.
