Residents at St Mary’s Riverside Care Home in Hessle recently enjoyed an exciting and engaging afternoon as part of the Hull FC Community Foundation’s ‘Our Best Years’ project. The care home welcomed Becky from Hull FC Community to lead a lively ‘boccia’ session, which took place in the second-floor lounge, much to the delight of the residents.
The ‘Our Best Years’ project, developed in partnership with Age UK Hull and Pickering and Ferens, is designed to bring Hull FC’s older fans together through a variety of inclusive activities. These sessions aim to improve both physical and social outcomes for participants, offering opportunities to connect with others while engaging in enjoyable activities.
Rebecca Counter, Hull FC Community Foundation’s Health & Wellbeing Lead, shared her enthusiasm for the project:
“We’re always thinking of new ways to evolve our projects here, and we feel this is a great way for local residents to sample one of our most successful programmes.”
St Mary’s Riverside is the first of four care homes in the St Mary’s Group to take part in this exciting programme, with three more visits planned in the near future. The sessions are designed to promote increased physical activity and a sense of community, all while having fun in a welcoming environment.
