St. Mary’s Riverside Care Home recently marked an extraordinary milestone as they celebrated their ‘Outstanding’ rating following a rigorous inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). This achievement is particularly noteworthy as it represents the care home’s first-ever inspection in East Yorkshire.
A celebratory party was organised under the compassionate leadership of the highly experienced Home Manager, Laura Barnsley, bringing together residents, their families, and local healthcare professionals. It’s worth noting that Laura Barnsley and her current management team achieved an ‘Outstanding’ CQC rating in the past, making this accomplishment all the more remarkable.
Kirsty Crozier, Managing Director of St. Mary’s Care Group, expressed her delight: “I am absolutely thrilled for Laura and her dedicated team. This exceptional achievement is a testament to their unwavering commitment to providing excellent and truly Outstanding care. This reinforces the critical need for exceptional care in the Hessle area.”
Laura Barnsley, the Home Manager, shared her joy, stating, “We originally intended to host a celebration immediately after the report’s publication, but the busy summer months delayed our plans. Nonetheless, I am overjoyed with our ‘Outstanding’ CQC rating. As a new care home with an entirely new team and a fresh environment for all of us, it was imperative that we function as a cohesive unit. I am immensely proud of my team, and this ‘Outstanding’ result is the icing on the cake. This is why it was essential for our team and residents to come together for a celebration filled with music, dancing, entertainment, delicious party food, and, of course, fun and games!”
The Care Quality Commission inspected St. Mary’s Riverside in Hessle in April. The findings were nothing short of exceptional, highlighting exceptional care and support.
Jenny Wilkes, representing the CQC, commended the staff for consistently going “above and beyond” in providing care with “dignity, respect, and compassion.” The residential home, situated near the iconic Humber Bridge, received an overall ‘Outstanding’ rating, with exceptional scores in both the categories of care and leadership.
The comprehensive report, published earlier, also commended the home for achieving a ‘Good’ rating in terms of safety, effectiveness, and responsiveness. This reflects the home’s unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest standards across all facets of care.
Ms Wilkes, Deputy Director of Operations for CQC in the north, shared her observations: “During our inspection of St. Mary’s Riverside, residents we spoke to were overwhelmingly positive about the exceptional care and support they received from the dedicated staff and management. We were delighted to see the wide array of activities and events organised by the home, ensuring that residents lead meaningful and engaging lives.”
Ms Wilkes also noted the “extremely warm and welcoming” atmosphere within the home, with residents expressing that the care they received exceeded their expectations. One heartwarming testament to this exceptional care was the story of a resident who, upon admission, was unable to walk independently but, with the support of the staff, regained mobility with the use of a mobility aid.
She concluded by saying, “We found St. Mary’s Riverside to be a well-led and exceptionally caring service that prioritises the unique needs of its residents. The entire team deserves commendation for their unwavering dedication and hard work.”
This outstanding recognition further solidifies St. Mary’s Riverside Care Home’s position as a leading care provider in the Hull and Hessle area, offering residents the highest standards of care, support, and quality of life.
