Katie’s Journey at St Mary’s Lodge

One of our cherished residents, Katie, moved to St Mary’s Lodge from Ruislip in July 2021. She quickly became a beloved part of our community, known for her humour and warmth. Katie often shared memories from her past, including a favourite song, The Maypole Inn, which she learned from her father. This song became a special part of her life at St Mary’s Lodge, as she would frequently sing it, dreaming of celebrating her 100th birthday.

The Importance of Family Connections

Family connections are vital, especially during the final stages of life. Katie’s niece, Marion, who resides in North Carolina, was a constant presence in Katie’s life through their frequent phone calls. Their bond was a source of great joy for Katie, and last year, Marion made the long journey to visit her at St Mary’s Lodge. This visit was a memorable event for Katie and the entire care home community.

Providing Comfort in Final Moments

When Katie suffered a stroke and was unable to return to St Mary’s Lodge, our Home Manager, Louise, and Alys, Admin, went to the hospital to be with her. They brought comfort to Katie by playing her beloved song, The Maypole Inn, during her final moments. The next day, Katie passed away peacefully, surrounded by love and care.
